I could never DD it again, but it is still such a driver/looker. Sure, I could drive something RWD/faster/whatever but for the money/size? This is the car for me.
People in my life have floated me selling it, but there’s no chance I could claw back another performance car if I did.
My recent off- road foray has got me SERIOUSLY looking at Jeeps. Green- lit on the spousal side with the condition it be an Unlimited.
After crunching the numbers, I think it is a little too pricey , but with the wild COVID card in play, who knows what this year may bring.
I am looking at around $40K CAD on a base( ish) JLU or higher spec lightly used JKU.

Is it normal to be jealous of a GIF?

It was just so perfect, I had to take a video (with my shaky, shaky hands) and turn it into a gif.

Why can’t you DD it again? Too harsh/small/bad roads? I forget the story of why you turned it to a weekend car.

Mostly because daily duty is a harsh sentence for something special (in my opinion). Once I got the Forte due to my car allowance at the old job, I was finally able to have something something I felt comfortable DDing

That’s reasonable. I’m of the mind that a daily driver should be something that you enjoy driving which is reliably and reasonably fuel efficient. I’ve made a revision to this belief- it should also be something you’re comfortable throwing away if it gets wrecked.

I agree with all that!

1. Convince the old man he needs a Bronco and make him a sweet offer on the Rubi with t he condition that he finances it at the same rate as he gets on the Ferd.
2.
3. Profit

As much as I harp on the Forte, it is a fine (just fine) DD for the late fall and winter. I currently have it unplated in my garage and DD our Sportwagen.
The manual is OK, it is comfy and safe. If it got written off? Great!

Pffft, try it on a gravel road!

Let the search begin.

He is actually planning on selling it soon (he says). He wants a 4x4 sprinter for #vanlife

Heeellllll no.

I’m actually looking in Edmonton. Things are a little cheaper there. Hoping to “adjust” the price. I get a cheap Jeep, they get a “free” Forte. I save on the PST when I reg. it in BC.

I will say the Alltrack is much more confidence inspiring.

I had 2 friends with JLs at the same time, base and mid spec . After a discussion the consensus was just get the base.
Im sure that rubi with the hardtop is nice, but is it TWICE as nice as the base? The base model with the crank windows still has bluetooth and he has no problems leaving the sides/back off all of the time. All the extras dont really add much to the experience besides cost.

Time to pounce!

It’s a shame that Canada (well North America really) doesn’t get the small & medium 4x4 options that other markets like ours get. You’d get so much more choice...most of them cheaper and many of them better than the Wrangler.

I’d kill for that. I just need something small (that’s key) and cheap. Nothing crazy.
Maybe I should see if I can pick up something japanese....

I have this thought that if you do have to switch out the ST for the Unlimited and get the need for speed, we find a street bike. Nothing crazy like a race replica, just a comfy mid-weight. Little space, not so much $ like a sports car, lots of fun.
Then you have all the options for the weekend.
O.O

I technically daily my FiST, but I put barely 4000 miles on it in the first year of ownership. Living in the city with bicycles is grand.

I’ve thought about it, but if I get a bike, my life expectancy will be like, 5 days.

I had that same thought until 2017.
Like me, you don’t live in the kill-zone Richmond or South Van where they drive like the Loony Tunes or crazy million things happening d owntown Van City .
If you go the speed of traffic and
stick mostly
to the yellow lines on google maps,
riding is surprisingly
pretty chill. I just rolled over 30,000km on the bike today!

I'm tempted, but for the time being it isn't going to happen

Not a completely silly idea...

Even better if one of the importers could find a shorty Toyota Prado with a manual transmission...
